200 take part in 8km 'foresthon'

PADANG BESAR, Mon. —A "foresthon" was held at the teak estate in Kaki Bukit near here yesterday in conjunction with the State-level World Forestry Day celebrations.

The eight-km run attracted 200 participants who were flagged off about 8am by Senior State Exco member Hail Fadzil Mahmood.

Abdul Rahman Mahmud, a State Medical and Health Services Department staff finished ahead of the rest in the senior category which was the main event.

The run was held at the teak estate to Inculcate greater awareness on environment conservation among the peoples whom the Government hopes to turn into nature lovers.

The "foresthon" preceded the launching of the celebrations by Menteri Besar Dr Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, also at the teak estate.

The Menteri Besar urged Perlis residents to play a greater role in environment conservation especially in preserving the forest.
