Frankel Estate to go 'green'
Waste not what-nots: Batteries, plastics and paper can be sorted out on bins like these, which will be placed at the void decks of 38 HDB blocks.
A PILOT door-to-door recycling scheme will start on Saturday in Frankel Estate.
About 400 houses in the private housing estate will take part in the Environment Ministry project, which aims to gauge public response for door-to-door collection of paper, plastics and drink cans.
An ENV statement said yesterday that the pilot project would also help to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of this approach in recycling waste.
It said that the residents have been asked to segregate waste paper, plastics and cans. They will also be required to bag the waste separately for collection by the ministry’s waste collectors every Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, the Aljunled, Brickworks, Toa Payoh and Tanjong Pagar town councils will also launch pilot waste recycling schemes in their estates on Sunday.
Waste recycling bins will be provided In the void decks of 38 11DB blocks in the four town councils.
Sponsored by Asia Pacific Breweries, the scheme will be launched by Mr Ch’ng Jit Koon, the Senior Minister of State (Community Development), at Spottiswoode Park in Tanjong Pagar on Sunday.
