10,000 trees to be planted in Klang
THE Klang Municipal Council will plant at least 10,000 trees this year to create a greener environment in the township.
The move is in line with the Selangor State Government’s call on local authorities to plant more trees.
In Shah Alam, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Abu Sujak Mahmud said local councils have been directed to plant 5,000 trees each and municipal councils 10,000 trees, when he officiated at the launch of the Selangor Consumers Affairs Council.
Klang Municipal Council president Mohamad Nor Bador said the decision to plant the 10,000 trees was made at yesterday’s full board meeting.
Mohatriad Nor said the council will be utilizing a part of the $4 million budget approved for parks and recreation.
"We need the help of non-Governmental organizations, including social groups, to make the plan a success."
He said it would be difficult for the council to achieve its aim without the support from the public.
The council has restrictions, including lack of manpower and resources, he added.
He said the council will make It compulsory for developers of new housing estates to plant enough trees before certificates of fitness are issued.
