Council's recycling project shelved

The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has postponed the implementation of its pilot recycling project for two housing estates due to poor response from residents.
Council president Mohamed Nor Bador said the council had decided to postpone the implementation which was scheduled from May to July until a new area was found.
Mohamed Nor said the council had conducted a survey to find other housing areas that were interested in the project. "The ideal housing areas would be those with active residents’ associations or Rukun Tetangga or welfare and security associations in the area," he said.
He added that the council was looking for an area with about 300 houses and where the people were interested in recycling. "The council needs the co-operation and active participation of residents associations to make the project a success," he said.
Mohamed Nor said the council needed feedback from residents for a comprehensive plan to implement the project for all residential areas in Klang.
"A survey showed that Taman Gembira has the potential for such a project as it has an active Rukun Tetangga. But the decision is up to the people there," he said.
He said that a portion of the earnings from the project would be shared with the residents’ association. Mohamed Nor said the council would carry out an educational session to explain recycling to the residents. "This is to ensure that the residents know what it is all about," he said.

FOR student Ahmad Hakimi Mohd Sabri, his experience in arranging milk cans helped him win the first prize in the recent Nestle Giant Ketupat Contest held in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations.
Hakimi, who is now taking the A-levels, guessed the exact number of cans in the Giant Ketupat placed at Subang Parade. He said he had worked as a labourer stacking milk tins.
"That was why I was able to guess the correct number of cans which incidentally totalled 735," he said. The contest was organized by Nestle (Ideal Milk) Sdn Bhd at The Mall and Subang Parade.
Competitors had to guess the number of Ideal Milk cans and to write a slogan in less than 15 words. The first prize winner for the contest held at The Mall was Wan Rozina Che Wan. She picked the number 727 — the first three digits of her telephone.
Although the total number of cans was 730, she was judged the winner as hers. was the nearest correct entry. Both the first prize winners received RM500 and a Nestle hamper worth RM100.
Nestle production manager, Rama Rao, who gave out the prizes also presented a cheque for RM1,200 to Ziton Uda, the superintendent of Tengku Budriah Children’s Welfare Home.
The two second prize winners, Wan Hanina Adlan and Wong Sow Kuen, received RM300 each while the two third prize winners received RM200 each.
