Waiting to dispose cans and papers
FRUSTRATED GREENIE, Kuala Lumpur.
We were so happy to see the enthusiasm shown by our local newspapers to save the planet.
We were even happier to finally find a "healthy" way of disposing our old textbooks, papers, magazines and aluminum cans.
After having read so many inspiring articles on saving the earth, we finally decided to tie up our old magazines and collect aluminum cans. That was a year ago.
After a year of endless calls by various government departments and major newspapers, the stack of cans and boxes of used papers are still collecting dust in our house. Apparently, they are the only things that are doing any "collecting."
The phone number 6214545 which keeps appearing on television is the only centre where we can send these collection, but it happens to be at the other end of town.
What about the books and magazines? Well, one place actually offered to send people over to collect them!
Unfortunately, they also wanted to know "how many tons we have". We were also told to send our magazines to a paper mill. Unfortunately, none of our household members can afford the time to drive all the way to Selayang.
