Plan for waste transfer station in Johor

By SHAHAR YAACOB

JOHOR BARU: The state government is looking for a site to build a transfer station for industrial wastes.

The station will store scheduled wastes produced in the state before they are transferred to the central treatment plant being developed by a consortium in Bukit Nenas, Negri Sembilan.

The consortium comprising three Danish companies — I Kruger, Chemcontrol and Enviroplan — together with Arab-Malaysia Development Bhd and United Engineers (M) Bhd, will build the station.

State Tourism and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Jimmy Low Boon Hong said the 20ha to 30ha site will be located away from water sources and agricultural areas.

The cost of the land and construction will be borne by the consortium, which will also be responsible for transporting the wastes.

The station will overcome the problem of storing increasing amounts of wastes as Johor develops into an industrial state.
