ENV updates status of Green Plan conservation proposals
SEVERAL Green Plan proposals to help conserve resources are being worked out now. The Environment Ministry has provided an update on the status of the proposals:
PROPOSAL: Allow energy-efficient equipment and advanced control systems to depreciate faster than as provided for under the Income Tax Act.
STATUS: ENV is working with the Economic Development Board and the Public Utilities Board on this. No update can be given yet, said the ENV spokesman.
PROPOSAL: Draw up an award scheme for environmentally-friendly buildings,,
STATUS: The Eco-Architecture Design Competition was launched during Clean and Green Week. The competition is aimed at getting architects to come up with innovative designs in environment-friendly buildings. The spokesman said the ministry was looking into other ways to recognize such buildings.
PROPOSAL: Produce a Code of Practice on energy efficiency.
STATUS: The Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research is leading this programme. it is forming a committee and reviewing the codes for energy conservation in building services.
PROPOSAL: Set up a waste exchange to match waste producers and users.
STATUS: There is some progress on the setting up of such an exchange where waste produced by one company can be used by another as raw material. However at this. time, ENV is unable to release any details.
