Firms urged to help in greening of PJ schools

PRIVATE companies have been urged to help schools in Petaling Jaya carry out their environment projects.

Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) president Mohamad Nor Bador said private companies should share the burden rather than leaving the council to shoulder all the responsibilities.

"We will not be able to do everything as we have other matters to look after and if some companies are able to help, we would appreciate it," he said.

At the moment there are 36 schools in the municipality and the council is working towards beautifying school compounds, he added.

Talking to reporters after launching a gotong-royong at Sekolah Menengah, Damansara Jaya yesterday, Mohamad Nor said it was vital for school areas to be beautified.

The gotong-royong was held jointly by the school, its Parent-Teacher Association and the MPPJ.

Students, teachers and their parents turned out in force to clean up the entire school and plant trees in the garden. The trees were donated by a construction company Mitrajaya Sdn Bhd. MPPJ provided lorries and equipment for the clean-up.

The council started the school beautification project at two schools in Petaling Jaya two months ago by providing lay-bys and waiting places for school children.

The schools were Catholic High School and Sekolah Menengah Kampung Medan.
