ENV encourages waste minimisation
I REFER to the letter "Reduce, reuse before recycling" by Mr Daren Shiau Vee Lung (ST, May 6).
I would like to thank him for his views on waste recycling.
We agree with him that waste minimisatlon should be the first line of approach. We would encourage people to throw out less waste where possible.
My ministry has therefore been encouraging manufacturers to practise minimal packaging and we are pleased to note that a
number of companies have Introduced’ soft-packaging, or refillable packaging, for their products.
For some waste such as old newspapers, unwanted magazines, books, etc, my ministry stresses recycling as there is still a lot of such waste thrown away by the public.
