Recycling effort foiled by refuse collector

I WOULD like to share my frustration in recycling.

At my request, I was sent a recycling bin by Altvater Jakob, which handles waste management in my estate.

The bin arrived together with a notice specifying dates of collection, including a statement that there would still be a collection if the day fell on Sunday or a public holiday.

However, May 1 came and went without any collection. Still, I felt that the May Day holiday was ample excuse not to collect the waste paper for recycling.

The next date of collection was Wednesday. I called Altvater Jakob in the morning, gave it my address and was assured that the material for recycling would be picked up.

I called again in the evening and was again reassured that the truck was on its way.

On Thursday morning,! phoned the company to say that if it was not interested in collecting the material, then I would not go out of my way to load the bin and would just sell the paper to the karang guni trucks that ply regularly in my estate.

I left them my name, telephone number and address but, at the end of the day, I was still waiting for a reply.

I wonder how many households have experienced the same frustration in trying to do their bit for recycling, only to have the waste collectors not play their part.
