Celebrate day by recycling

KUALA LUMPUR: Be charitable. Donate your old household items and newspapers during The Star’s Green Day celebration at the Forest Reserve Institute of Malaysia on June 3.

The Xim Phou Moon Welfare Society which is actively involved in waste collection will organise a drive to receive old clothing, newspapers, books and magazines, toys and aluminium cans.

"We will also put up some visuals on recycling, waste separation and the welfare activities of Xim Phou Moon," said Eadon Ching Ten Siong, deputy president of the society.

"Those who wish to bring their old stuff are advised to put them in bags when handing over the things to the society member."

The Malaysian Newsprint Industries (MNI) will also educate the public on paper recycling process.

"Besides the mini demonstration on paper recycling, we will hand out educational leaflets and posters to create awareness among the visitors on waste in Malaysia," said Lee Sun Loong, MNI business development manager.

"A video specially produced on paper recycling will also be played for the visitors to encourage them to make recycling a way of life," he added.

The celebration held in conjunction with World Environment Day is a day for family and friends to enjoy nature and contribute towards conserving the environment.

The event will start at 9a and end at 3pm.

Themed Go Green. Waste Not, it will be filled with nature walks, a scavenger hunt,  colouring contest and a quiz test to test your "green knowledge’.

Visitors can also have their faces painted.

Groups involved in conserving the environment will also be there to share ways of caring for nature.

So come early and wear something green.
