School recycles papers for charity

EVERY Wednesday, each of the 1,600 students and teachers of Nanyang Junior College goes to school with an old newspaper.

On May 9, the school started a long-term environmental charity project with the Parkway Healthcare Foundation.

Every Wednesday, old newspapers are deposited in a recycling bin in the school.

And every week, members of the foundation collect the old newspapers and sell them to recycling companies.

The money raised goes towards caring for the aged sick being looked after by the foundation.

This week’s copy of student newspaper Friday Weekly brings you the story of how students and teachers of Nanyang JC kill two birds with one stone — helping to save the environment while raising funds for charity.

The Arts Paper, sponsored by the National Arts Council, is into its last issue.

This week’s issue also has details of the musical performances in June’s Singapore Arts Festival.

Answer two simple questions and you may win tickets to the performances, watches and waist pouches.
